Incorporated in 1990 by award-winning actor and director Thurman E. Scott, The Actors Theatre Workshop was founded on the belief that every human being has something to offer - - a song to sing, an expression to share, an idea to express. In a world confronting great division, isolation and uncertainty, the Actors Theatre Workshop provides a venue for people from all walks of life - - from professional theatre artists to homeless children, business professionals, and senior citizens - - to express their gifts and make their contribution in this uncertain time. Through our classes, programs and volunteer organization, ATW fulfills our mission to inspire, engage, and awaken the dormant possibilities that exist in all humans. Our aim in providing this program is to prepare and equip individuals with the tools to contribute to the community by becoming a member of our organization and taking a leadership position within our volunteer corps. The Actors Theatre Workshop has flourished as a vital New York City cultural institution since incorporating as a non-profit, and one of the keys to our success has been the committed work of our talented volunteer corps. We offer you this unique opportunity to study with Mr. Scott as an incentive to become involved in a dynamic cultural arts organization and become part of an enthusiastic team of individuals working together to support a very powerful mission. The Creative Expression and Community Service Training Program is a commitment of time and resources on the part of ATW to help individuals develop their unique skills. It will allow you to experience first-hand ATW's mission of providing people from all walks of life with the creative tools to fulfill their potential. If this mission and vision vibrates within your heart, then you can apply to become a member of the program and a member of our non-profit theatre and community center. The ideal candidate for the Creative Expression and Community Service Training Program is a dedicated, positive individual who can work well in both individual and group settings. This person must be willing to open his or her mind to new ideas and concepts while experiencing and contributing to the positive work that this life-changing theatre undertakes. Ultimately the Creative Expression and Community Service Training Program is about being committed to yourself. Regardless of how successful you have been, the Program will support you to reach far beyond what you have envisioned as your maximum potential. At its core the Program will give you the tools to see all the many possibilities that exist in any given moment, idea or situation. The successful candidate for the Program must be aggressively committed to your own success and the enhancement of whatever it is you are doing in your life. The application process for this scholarship program is selective. Priority will be given in order of submission, so don't wait! The program requires an 18 month commitment.
