The Scott Acting Conservatory
All classes offered at the Scott Acting Conservatory are taught by ATW's Artistic Director and Founder Thurman E. Scott.
The Scott Acting Conservatory is the professional acting conservatory of the Actors Theatre Workshop, founded by award-winning actor, writer and director, Thurman E. Scott. In his conservatory, Mr. Scott teaches an original acting and writing technique to both professional actors and students beginning the journey of developing into theatre artists. Thurman E. Scott has developed a unique and powerful acting system which allows the actor to express deep emotional reality and complex behavior through a trained and disciplined imagination. With this unique approach to the study of drama, Mr. Scott draws upon his extensive award-winning career as a professional actor and director, his training with the masters of the modern theater -- Stella Adler, Sanford Meisner, Lee Strasberg, Bobby Lewis, Harold Clurman, Peggy Fury, Herbert Berghof, Jerzy Grotowski and Alec Rubin -- and the original findings of Constantine Stanislavsky.
At the founding of The Actors Theatre Workshop, Inc., Mr. Scott's mentor and theatre legend Stella Adler with whom he shared a creative relationship spanning over 25 years stated, "Thurman E. Scott is the inheritor of the Stanislavsky legacy and of my legacy. His work advances acting technique for the next generation."
"The student and teacher should be in alignment as to the ideal and vision. That way, they're both on a mission working together toward the vision. This is a relationship that comes out of a long tradition that has been handed down by the great legacy of teachers and directors." Thurman E. Scott, from the essay The Creative Power of the Word
